Carvone is a member of a family of chemicals called terpenoids. Carvone is found abundantly in the oils from seeds of caraway, spearmint and dill. Carvone forms 2 enantiomers –
R-(-)-carvone or L-carvone - has a sweetish minty                                                       smell)
S-(+)-carvone or D-carvone – has a spicy aroma

USES
Carvone is used as a flavoring agent and as a plant growth regulator.Oils containing carvones are used in aromatherapy and alternative medicine.
R-(−)-Carvone is also used for air freshening products. (R)-()-Carvone has been proposed for use as a mosquito repellent.
 S-(+)-Carvone has shown a suppressant effect against high-fat diet induced weight gain in animal model of obesity. S-(+)-Carvone is also used to prevent premature sprouting of potatoes during storage

Proper precautions must be taken while handling Carvone. It is harmful if swallowed and maybe fatal if enters the airway. Coming in direct contact with the skin, it may cause an allergic reaction.
